Perry and Marty Granoff Center for the Creative Arts Brown University
The 35,000 square foot Perry and Marty Granoff Center for the Creative Arts, creates a new focal point on campus for the visual arts. The building is centrally located along “The Walk” that will become the green corridor linking the Brown’s historic campus and the Pembroke campus. The Center features a 200-seat recital hall, three flexible production spaces, a recording studio, multimedia lab, technical shops and a physical media lab for production and research in sensors, robotics, and physical computing.
The building also includes project studios, an art gallery and breakout spaces promoting student and faculty interaction.
External “Venetian blinds” and the folded building skin are designed to reduce solar heat gain and to provide control of natural lighting for the building interior.
Heating and cooling systems utilize the central campus chilled water and high temperature hot water systems. These systems extended to the adjacent Brown Office Building and integrated into the heating and cooling systems for that building.
The air systems are variable volume type implementing variable speed drives and demand-based ventilation control. The recital hall displacement air supply system delivers air at the floor and minimizes air noise to achieve the acoustical performance requirement.
