Saint John Paul II National Shrine

The Saint John Paul II National Shrine is a place of prayer sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, welcoming people of all faiths. The shrine is located adjacent to The Catholic University of America and houses a permanent exhibit called A Gift of Love: the Life of Saint John Paul II.

Altieri began master planning and phased renovation work on the building. The work accelerated in 2014 to coordinate with the elevation of the Pope to Sainthood. The facility has undergone phased renovations including: complete renovation of the lower level to create a state-of-the-art interactive museum highlighting the life and works of the Saint John Paul II, complete renovation of the second floor to create museum-quality exhibition space, transformation of an interior atrium into the new 300-person Redeemer of Man church, installation of intricate mosaics in both the Redeemer of Man church and the Redemptor Hominis Chapel depicting scenes from the life of Christ, new exhibit conservation and storage space, as well as several other interior and exterior renovations that support the main work. New electrical, lighting, and HVAC systems were installed throughout the renovated areas to support the program and provide needed conservation conditions in collection areas.
